Profile
JD Rainey aka B-Boy TWIXX is one of the four wildcard B-Boys appointed by an international jury. TWIXX is known for his explosive energy. He likes to surprise the audience. One minute he is down on the floor and in the blink of an eye he’s harnessing his boundless energy and exploding up in the air.
TWIXX first made contact with breaking in 1995, when he was in middle school. There was a new kid in school and TWIXX saw him breaking in the school yard. He was impressed by what he saw. He thought it was the ultimate form of expression and was intrigued by its athleticism. So he approached the kid and asked if he would teach him to dance. They became close friends and both are still crazy about B-Boying.
TWIXX is a member of the famous Massive Monkees crew. He loves his crew and says they are the reason he dances the way he does. They educated him on real style and dance ability. The Massive Monkees' recipe for success is their chemistry as a crew. They have won many prestigious titles all over the world, including the World B-Boy Championships at Wembley Arena in London in 2004. However, they know that it takes more than winning battles to be successful, as they've shown their versatility by choreographing performances that offer a visually stunning mix of routines and solo sets. They’ve performed with artists including LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Slick Rick, De La Soul, Nas, 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Ludacris, Jurassic 5, Atmosphere, Immortal Technique, Beyoncé, and Alicia Keys.
TWIXX was born in Anchorage, Alaska, but his family moved to Seattle in 1989 due to job changes. He calls himself “a real life Forrest Gump” because as a kid he had to wear leg braces and wasn’t able to walk until he was 5 years old. On top of that he had asthma when he was little. He is very grateful that while growing up, he was healed of these disabilities and that he was able to leave all those handicaps behind. His love for dance is so strong; he can’t imagine a life without it.
TWIXX not only dances, but is also a very artistic person. He loves to draw and is into graffiti. He also likes to cut hair and works as a barber during the day. He is a jack-of-all-trades and wants to make good use of all his God-given talents. His family is very proud of his achievements and they are happy that he has the opportunity to do what he loves. Most of all, apart from expressing his creative soul, TWIXX enjoys spending time with his family, his 5-year old daughter Mercedes and his girlfriend, Emily.
TWIXX loves Hip Hop culture because it doesn’t discriminate. He thinks that anyone who bothers to take a close look will find out what it’s really about and that it’s not the bling and the money that count. Asked about the scene in Seattle he says, “It’s consistent! What we lack in numbers, we make up for in character, soul, and passion for the dance.”
To TWIXX a good B-Boy is somebody who has a love for dance. Of course execution and style are important, but first and foremost it’s a dance and not acrobatics and sometimes people seem to forget that. TWIXX is looking forward to the RED BULL BC ONE in South Africa. He thinks it’s a challenging and enlightening experience that gives people from all over the world the opportunity to go out there and represent for their crew and their hometown.
