Profile
Jorge Andre de Lima Gonçalves Curado aka MUXIBINHA started breaking when he was nine years old and won his first title at the age of eleven. Today, at seventeen, he demonstrates his unique style which helped him to win the Brazilian prelims to obtain the hard-fought place of the 16th dancer at the RED BULL BC ONE in São Paulo in 2006.
He first got his name in school because he was always the smallest and so they nicknamed him MUXIBINHA, a diminutive meaning something really small. As a little boy, MUXIBINHA started capoeira training with his brother and when he was eight, they were invited to practice with friends of this brother who were breaking. That’s how MUXIBINHA made his first contact with the dance and he loved it from the start. He likes the principles and the fundamental ideas behind the dance and feels that B-Boying has made him a better person. He regards his crew as a family that enables him to grow within, not only professionally and physically, but in every aspect of life. The members of his crew are his biggest inspiration.
MUXIBINHA practices hard, so that in the thick of battle he can communicate the essence of breaking. For him the dance is about the love of rhythm, creativity and originality. Toprocks and footwork for him hold the most potential for evolving and creating one’s own style. Mainly MUXIBINHA focuses on B-Boying, but he enjoys other forms of Hip Hop dance as well. He also practices popping, locking, and house dance. He admires the other elements of Hip Hop, DJing, MCing and graffiti, but focuses on the dance. He sees Hip Hop as a revolutionary movement that should be much more appreciated in mainstream society as a creative outlet.
In MUXIBINHA’s opinion a good B-Boy dances with his whole body and soul for the pure love of the dance, cherishes the footwork and toprocks as much as powermoves and doesn’t forget to use his face as a potent means of expression while he is dancing. His dream is to be able to make a living from dancing thus making a better life possible for him and his family in the future. His family supports and motivates him and gives him a lot of strength because they believe in his dream.
For MUXIBINHA breaking is the way of the warrior—a way of victory and defeat—just as in life, where you grow and learn and fight to be successful and reach your goals. MUXIBINHA hopes that while fighting to reach his goals through B-Boying, he can be an example for all the others struggling.
