Red Bull BC One Qualifier Japan 2007

According to the judges, this battle was one of the most difficult competitions to decide. All 16 dancers came prepared with an arsenal of killer moves and combos to strike down their opponent. But as it is, in the end, there can only be one person left standing. This night, it was B-Boy Taisuke from Nagasaki.

Each battle presented the judges with a specific set of challenges. After drawing the dancers for the battles, there was an interesting spread of power against style, etc. Each dancer was so individualistic and unique that the jury was no doubt struggling each time. They must have dreaded hearing the MC countdown “3-2-1 Judge!” each time before raising their cards!

Much too soon there it was—the final round. Suddenly everything the dancers had worked for was about to be set in motion. The two B-Boys faced each other, the DJ dropped the beat, and the MC roared “Battle Start!!!” Clearly no one was going to leave the arena bored.

When B-Boy Dragon had come on stage, there were cheers and woos in the audience calling out his name. He was the local favorite and the street buzz had him pegged as the potential winner. He has style, he has power, and he has been around long enough for a well-rounded maturity to show. And he was taking no prisoners.

Taisuke, on the other hand, was there to enjoy himself—period. He was free in spirit and the moves showed that—loose, but well thought out, relaxed, but intense. All of this worked to influence the judges in his favor.

It was a tight battle, either person could have taken it, but overall, Taisuke had more presence, more impact and when the judges sang, they sang his tune. B-Boy Taisuke was declared the winner of the Red Bull BC One Qualifier Japan!
