Red Bull BC One Qualifier France 2007
presented by BREAKIN' DANCE SESSION
French B-Boy Sebastien wins the final battle of the Red Bull BC One Qualifier France and will be one of the 16 dancers competing at the Red Bull BC One in Johannesburg, South Africa on September 22nd.
In front of an ecstatic crowd, heated up by Saian Supa Crew singer MC Sly the Mic and his partner Viceslow, 16 B-Boys from France, Spain, Turkey, and the UK gave it their all during a two-hour show. The night started with a freestyle performance of the three judges: Anne (France), David Colas (France) and Raphael (Germany) to the beats of DJ Taj Mahal.
Spanish Extremo opened the competition in a battle against Nasbrok who had been selected by the online jury. Extremo with his fast and aggressive style won over Nasbrok who danced with French elegance but didn’t seem to be able to find his rhythm.
Judges and B-Boys all agreed on one thing: Due to the high quality and creativity of the dancers; the judges had a hard time deciding who deserved to move on to the next round. Several times, the decision was not unanimous in favour of the winner of the battle.
The adrenaline was pumping and the dancers showed that they were motivated to fight real battles, interacting and really challenging their opponent.
One of the highlights was the battle between Graci and Loic in the second round, where both dancers demonstrated the diversity of B-Boying. Graci showed impressive original top rocks and footwork. Loic showed a new style of high level breaking round after round and moved on to the semi finals.
The hottest battle of the night was Sebastien versus Marcio—the energy between the two dancers was tangible! But Marcio’s extremely powerful moves couldn’t stop Sebastien from moving on to the semi finals.
Extremo again started the semi finals, battling Mounir this time. It was a battle of two generations of B-Boys. Extremo showed his fast and original footwork. Mounir consistently displayed his aggressive battle skills. In the end, Extremo won, gaining more points through his powermoves.
Loic, with his funny and unique character could not show as much creativity against Sebastien in their battle. Sebastien wowed the crowd with yet another set of new and fresh moves.
In the final battle, it was between Sebastien, who hurt his wrist in the semi final, versus Mounir. The level of this grande finale was worthy of a final battle of a Red Bull BC One event! The temperature was rising as both dancers showed B-Boying at its highest level, each representing a completely different style.
While the judges were counting their points, MC Sly the Mic, Buddha, and Vicelow brought on a hilarious human beat box improvisation illustrating the trailer of the Red Bull BC One event.
Finally, Sebastien convinced the judges with his consistently clean, smooth, and original moves and won the last and final qualifier of the Red Bull BC One qualifier series. He now will be one of 16 dancers to compete in the final event in Johannesburg, South Africa on September 22nd.
The Red Bull BC One Final Battle will take place on September 22 in Johannesburg, South Africa. We will see the winners of the 9 qualifiers representing their crews and countries, Red Bull BC One 2006 winner Hong 10 will be back and will be up against some tough opponents – silver medal winner Ronnie is invited, as well as third place B-Boy Roxrite. There are still 4 wild cards to be handed out to B-Boys who were not able to qualify for the final event, but who deserve to be there. The selection is based on the dancer’s reputation in the community, the uniqueness of his dance style and the individuality of his character.
Stay tuned for September 22nd 2007, when will be determined who is “THE ONE!”!
