Profile
Gengis Ademoski aka LIL CENG (pronounced Lil’ Tscheng/Cheng) was born in 1991, in a section of Macedonia where Turkish is spoken. He grew up with his mother and his older brother, Elviz, in Saarbrücken, Germany. He is blessed to have a family that encourages his career as a B-Boy.
“My first name is Gengis. I have always been the youngest dancer so the rest of the crew started to call me Lil Ceng,” says the youngest member of the Berlin based Flying Steps Crew. He first experienced Hip Hop culture in 2001, when he saw B-Boys performing in a street show in Saarbrücken, Germany, and was inspired to learn this dance. His crew member, Benny Kimoto has always been his greatest dance influence. LIL CENG admires him, stating, “He developed power moves to a completely new level.” When he was younger, he watched Benny on television and the internet. Eventually they met at several B-Boy events and became good friends. In 2007, he was invited by Flying Steps to join them in the RED BULL Beat Battle. They won the competition and soon after, he was made a full member of the crew. LIL CENG also practices other dance forms including Locking, Popping, House and Freestyle. He is interested in graffiti and music but only as a fan, not an artist.
LIL CENG specializes in power moves but also practices top rocks, down rocks and freezes in order to create an exciting presentation. His signature moves include “chair twist” combinations and variations of the “flare”. It is most important for him to perform clean sets on point and please the crowd with flavor. His battle strategy involves preparing himself to be able to respond to each and every set that his opponents perform. A B-Boy with battle etiquette, if he does not win a battle, LIL CENG will not act disappointed or blame the judges. He explains, “If you battle you have to respect the judges’ authority and to accept that you might lose.”
Having accomplished so much already at the young age of 18, LIL CENG is sponsored by Red Bull, Nike and Heelys and only works as a professional dancer with Flying Steps. He has appeared in commercials for both Sony Ericsson and Heelys and is also featured in many DVDs and B-Boy video clips online. He hopes, “If everything works out, I will participate in the international dance movie: ‘Beat The World’ soon.” In addition to dancing, he enjoys skating on Heelys, participating in various sports, jogging and running forest obstacle courses. He recently finished high school.
LIL CENG has battled in two RED BULL BC ONE’s before this year. In 2006, he competed in Brazil but lost in the first round to Hong 10, who went on to take the title. In 2008, he battled his way to the semi-finals in Paris but lost to Taisuke. He is steadily preparing for greater success in the 2009 Red Bull BC One. He is really excited about being invited back to battle and looks forward to visiting New York City. LIL CENG hopes the 2009 RED BULL BC ONE judges will take into account all of the different aspects of the B-Boy dance form when making their final decisions.
“The Red Bull BC One is the most sophisticated and prestigious B-Boy battle worldwide, so of course it’s an honor for me to participate. I have always dreamed of travelling to New York—the city where B-Boying originated. Now this dream has come true and in addition to just visiting New York I am going to participate in the greatest B-Boy battle ever! This feels amazing!” – LIL CENG
