Fabiana Balduína Freitas Silva aka FAB*GIRL started dancing in 2001. She took classes in street dance, funk and soul, because back then, those were the dances that girls were expected to do.

Then Franciso Álvaro aka Kid took her to a competition, the “Anniversary of Planaltina,” to show her the girls who “danced for real.” and she saw an authentic B-Girl for the first time. The local freestyle crew was dancing and suddenly B-Girl Nena jumped in and did toprocks, footwork, windmills and flares! FAB*GIRL, who had never particularly liked street dance, was completely astonished by this girl’s attitude and all the difficult moves she pulled! The next day Fabiana started training.

In the beginning, the guys all laughed at her and Fabiana remembers going home crying. But she wouldn’t give up and practiced even harder. There was a rough piece of floor in her school and everyday she’d come with her little piece of cloth, clean it and train hard. None of the boys would support her. She learned the steps and moves from watching and copying them. She got better and better and when she finally busted her first windmill, the guys were impressed and offered to help, but by then she didn’t want their help anymore.

In 2003, FAB*GIRL went to the Brazilian Hip Hop Festival in Brasília. Famous Brazilian B-Boy Andrezinho, a judge at this year’s BC ONE, was giving workshops there and Fabiana profited a lot from his classes. She entered a 2 on 2 competition at the festival. They didn’t have a category for B-Girls, but since her performance was so good, they gave her a special prize.

FABGIRL later also took classes with Frank Ejara in the “Curso de Verão” at the dance centre in Brasília. In 2003, Fabiana started practicing with B-Girl Bianca. Bianca took her to “Batalha Final“ in São Paulo. The guys called FABGIRL up to dance on stage because she danced differently from the other girls. It was a very special event for her.

At the end of 2004, the first B-Girl battle took place at the Brazilian Hip Hop Festival in Brasília. They competed in the 2 on 2 battle against B-Boys and won first place. Eduardo Sô, who also helped them a lot in their development.

FAB*GIRL has now been dancing for 5 years. With the help of her friends she has made it through the ups and downs in the life of a dancer. Even when she had no job and basically no money, her crew supported her, by paying for food and rent, so she could pursue her dancing career.

Today she lives in the in Brasília and teaches breaking classes for kids from thirteen to eighteen years old.

She loved competing in the very first Red Bull BC One B-Girl battle in 2006 and is grateful for the opportunity to showcase Brazilian B-Girling to the world.
