PROFILE
Italian B-Boy Mauro Peruzzi aka CICO is one of the most famous and powerful dancers worldwide. He is especially known for his energetic air flare combinations and for his incredible 1990ers where he rapidly spins in a one-armed handstand. He holds the world record with 27 revolutions.

CICO was born in Germany in1984 and moved back and forth between Germany and Italy until 2002. Now he lives in Venice, Italy. As a dancer he has participated in numerous events and has won titles and battles all over the world. He is an active member of the international Spinkings crew and took part at the Red Bull BC One in 2005 and 2007.

CICO started breaking in 1995, after he saw B-Boys in the streets of Speyer, in Germany, where he lived at the time. The guys seemed to be flying—breaking every law of nature and in CICO the need arose to “learn how to fly.“ “Every new rotation I learned filled me with energy and fuelled the flame I felt inside!”

In 1998, he founded the crew “The Second Floor” with other B-Boys in Speyer. The crew was like a family to CICO, the most important thing in his life. “Without realizing it, I had isolated myself from everything and everyone—school, friends and family were irrelevant. My reason to live was to reach my goal, which seemed so close and real in my dreams but so far and surreal in reality!”

When the crew split up in 2000, it came to CICO like a shock. He was devastated. He had never felt so alone in his life. “I couldn't share my thoughts and that in which I believed. I felt fragile, isolated and different from everybody else. I didn’t understand I was in conflict with myself and the rest of the world.”

Then in 2001, CICO and some other European B-Boys founded the crew "Killa Beez” and with them, CICO found a way to release his rage and express his personality, things he could only do while he danced.

The first injury to his right knee, a dislocation of the kneecap and broken internal ligaments made CICO realize that he was really made out of flesh and bone! “I felt like a bird without wings and abandoned by destiny.” CICO injured the same knee again in 2001, 6 months after the first injury. During the world exhibition in 2002 at the International Battle of the Year, where he competed with Killa Beez, in front of nearly 10.000 people the same terrible accident happened to the very same knee.

That same year CICO decided to move to Italy to find out what he wanted to do with his life and to find out who he was.

One thing never changed for him—the need to dance. For the Red Bull BC One in Paris CICO is in perfect shape and ready to show the audience for the third time that he knows “how to fly!”

CICO’S PHYLOSOPHY:

As I dance it is as if I scream to make myself heard
and feel alive. Like a scream that
cannot escape from a small room, it transforms into
a cycle of energy, amplifying and
heightening the perception of every single part of my body.
The energy that surrounds me optimizes
all of my senses, making me faster, more compact and
makes me aware of being able to go
against every law of nature.

We are all born with a flame inside, which we find difficult to feel because evolution has made us prisoners of a reality from which
we cannot escape.

One day, unaware of what was about to happen to me,
I caught a glimpse of something rotating
in the distance. Curious of what it were, I quickly
approached and was shocked with what I saw.
A person was spinning like a vortex on the cold pavement.
My hands were sweaty and my heart started
to beat faster, it was as if something, in that precise moment,
took my breath away.
The need, the desire and the conviction of:

LEARNING HOW TO FLY

I am the only creator of my limits in a battle
between that which exists
and that which I still have to achieve.

I had to fly, beyond the most violent storms
and furthest horizons, until fatigue is no longer a weight,
loneliness a punishment,
but delight
to sacrifice myself for a dream that no one sees
besides me.

I felt abandoned at the edge of the world,
surrounded with hurt and indifference. I decided to confront
myself against the best power movers in the world
in order to understand.
