Red Bull BC One Cypher USA Denver 2012
Local hero Kid Cruz wins Red Bull BC One Cypher in Denver!
June 23, 2012 – (Denver, CO) – On a hot Saturday night in Denver, sixteen b-boys lit up the stage at the Red Bull BC One Denver Cypher, providing the more than 450 attendees with a breathtaking display of b-boy prowess. Red Bull BC One, the largest one-on-one b-boy championship in the world, hosted the “cypher,” or local qualifier, at EXDO in Denver to find the top b-boy in the Rocky Mountains. Sixteen of the best breakdancers faced off one-on-one, and after several heated battles, Denver local Kid Cruz took top honors. Kid Cruz will now advance to compete in the Red Bull BC One U.S. National Qualifier in Chicago on July 21. The winner in Chicago will represent the U.S. in the World Final in Rio de Janeiro in December.
“The event was great and raised the level of competition here in Denver,” said Kid Cruz. “What I am really looking forward to most is competing and dancing with the best in Chicago. And another chance to do my thing on the BC One stage”. Added Kid Cruz
The level of excitement at EXDO was high from the time the first spectator walked through the doors. Many in attendance were breakdancers themselves, and several impromtu battles broke out throughout the club before the event had even officially begun. But once emcee CROS1 (Freestyle Session/Armory), got on the microphone, the crowd hushed and all eyes went to the stage. CROS1 guided the sixteen b-boys through four rounds of heated competition, where they tried their best to impress the judges and audience alike. The panel of judges included b-boy legends Moy (Havikoro), Ronnie (2007 Red Bull BC One World Champion) and Fienz (Lordz of Finesse).
From the moment CROS1 started the first battle, all 16 bboys came out and danced as hard as they could. In the end it was hometown bboy Kid Cruz vs. Palmer of Texas. When the 3 judges revealed their cards it was Kid Cruz who came out on top.
“Kid Cruz showed that he wanted it the most in the finals,” said judge Ronnie. “He went all out, he showed not just the audience but the judges too that he wanted it. Texas vs. Denver rivalry was in full effect.”
The full field of competing b-boys included: Kid Cruz, Palmer, Data, Vicious Vee, Terrific Terry, Quiksilva, Reach1ne, A-Roc, Dash, Jose, Beast Boogie, TXT, Rio Leo, Ali, Bamm, Yuta
Since its birth in 2004, Red Bull BC One has become the premier competition in the world of b-boying. While the competition has consistently attracted the best in the world, in 2011 the event series opened up to give any b-boy the chance to compete through a multi-layered global qualification or “cypher” phase. This year’s event consists of more than 60 cyphers in 50 countries as far and wide as Algeria, Italy, Bolivia and Taiwan.
