B-Boy Juicy beats out 75 others to be “The One” in Malaysia

The first ever Red Bull BC One Cypher in Malaysia by Red Bull Blue & Silver (Product of Europe) crowned its first champion last Saturday at the Kompleks Rakan Muda Bukit Kiara. Crowd favourite B-Boy Juicy took home the title as “The One” beating out 75 other hopefuls in a battle that was judged by international B-Boy royalties Red Bull BC One All Stars Cico and Pelezinho and Red Bull BC One 2008 World  Champion Wing (Jinjo Crew).

An overwhelming crowd of over 700 B-Boys enthusiasts came to support the local B-Boys (and B-Girls) and the chance to rub shoulders with the Red Bull BC One judges who joined the participants on the practice floor before the competition to hang out with the local B-Boys. DJ Misty and DJ Dion took turns to on the DJ deck providing bears for the B-Boys while veteran B-Boy emcee MC Bone navigated the action on the dance floor. Spectators were entertained by local performances by Jin Hackman, SonaOne and Shawn Lee in between battle rounds.

The crowd checked into the venue as early as 5pm to get a feel of the venue and to warm up before the competition was surprised to see the judges (Cico, Pelezinho and Wing) greeting them on the practice floors and occasionally signing autographs on their limited edition Red Bull BC One Malaysia t-shirt. Cico and Pelezinho even decided to show off some moves alongside the local B-Boys.

The Cypher that officially started at 6.15pm saw the local B-Boys giving all they have to impress the judges. Among the participants, lone B-Girl Lil Cash and 9 year-old B-Boy Danish got the most attention from the cheering crowd. The atmosphere of the venue got intense as the Top 16 left everything they have on the stage.

A split decision from the judges (2-1) was clearly a surprise to the Malaysian champion B-Boy Juicy who was ecstatic to have won over fellow experience B-Boy Zen and B-Boy Pitt Den who was second and third respectively. All 3 will represent Malaysia at the Red Bull BC One South East Asia Cypher in Singapore.

Most B-Boys when asked was happy that the world prestige B-Boy competition Red Bull BC One has finally arrive in Malaysia. 3rd place winner Pitt Den who travelled more than 5 hours to the venue could not believe how well he fared. “It’s a dream come true. I’ve been dreaming about being part of the Red Bull BC One competition for years!!” All 3 finalists are confident that Malaysia is as strong as fellow B-Boys in SEA and will do their best to make the local B-Boy community proud.
