Red Bull BC One

B-Boy Monkey J was crowned Champion of Hong Kong, Macau and China in the Red Bull BC One Cypher Hong Kong 2012 which drew to a dramatic close this evening. The 24 year old Monkey J beat 15 other B-Boys in a series of one-on-one battles in a packed out event at Sai Wan Ho Youth Outreach.

The victory, which was witnessed by top B-Boy judges, DJ’s, fellow competitors and several hundred fans, will see Monkey J head to Auckland, New Zealand in September to represent Hong Kong, Macau and China in the Asia Qualifier where he’ll be battling for a place at the world finals in Rio de Janeiro in December.

The event was the culmination of Red Bull’s BC One series which attracted 95 B-Boys from Hong Kong, Macau and China to show what they can do when it really matters. While the majority was eliminated in a Pre-Qualifier event held two weeks ago, the best eight, chosen by a panel of distinguished judges from Hong Kong and Macau, secured a berth at the Final, along with a further eight invited “wild-card” B-Boys.

Speaking shortly after beating B-boy Prinz Harry in the final battle, Monkey J said, “It’s amazing! The competition was so strong and I never thought I would be able to defend my title. It’s just awesome. I knew I had to do something pretty special to have any chance of winning so I pulled off some special downrock and power moves in the final battle. It’s such a cool event and I’m just so happy to be heading to the Asia Qualifier later this year.”

Red Bull BC One is one of the world’s top B-Boy events, held in more than 60 countries around the world, attracting thousands of participants each year. The winner of the Red Bull BC One Hong Kong Cypher will travel to New Zealand for the Asia Pacific Qualifier in September, with the Asia Pacific champion jetting to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the World Final in December.

Hong 10, one of the judges from South Korea at this year’s event said, “It’s been pretty awesome. B-Boying is getting bigger in Hong Kong each year and we’ve seen some pretty awesome battles in the final but Monkey J deserves to win it again. He’s a class act and performed some great moves on stage under a lot of pressure. Let’s hope he can do himself justice in New Zealand and make the world finals in Rio.”

[2012 年 6 月 30 日 – 香港特別行政區] 由 Red Bull 主辦的 Red Bull BC One Cypher (香港站) 剛於西灣河 協青社順利選出最後的街舞王者 B-Boy Monkey J,他將再次代表香港前往紐西蘭與其他亞洲 B-Boys 比拼, 爭取成為亞洲區代表,進軍巴西的世界冠軍賽 (Red Bull BC One Cypher World Final) ,與世界各地頂尖 舞王進行連番激鬥。

今屆香港站決賽剛於 6 月 30 日於西灣河協青社完滿結束,整日的賽事取得空前成功,並吸引一眾 breakdance 發燒友到場打氣及觀賽,賽前整個籃球場已座無虛席。大會還邀請來自南韓的 Hong 10 、台 灣的 B-Boy Lil Han 及香港的 B-Boy Drunk 三位身經百戰、獲獎無數的 B-Boys 為 Red Bull BC One Cypher 擔任評審。較早前舉辦的香港區初賽已選出最後 8 強,聯同另外 8 名獲邀的 B Boys 精英,組成最 後 16 強於決賽當日以 1 對 1 比賽形式進行激鬥。在現場觀眾的掌聲及吶喊聲中, B-Boy Monkey J 奪得 Red Bull BC One Cypher(香港站)街舞王者的殊榮。

決賽評判之一,來自南韓的 B-Boy Hong 10 表示:「今年的入圍者無論技巧和舞姿都十分出色,他們都能 成熟地掌握 toprock (戰鬥舞)、downrock (footwork) (排腿)、power moves(大地板)及 freezes(小地板)這些 舞蹈技巧,令我留下深刻的印象。衛冕冠軍的 B-Boy Monkey J 的表現十分穩定,而且極富音樂感,對節 拍十分敏感,可以說是他取勝之道。這幾年間,香港的 breakdance 文化漸漸得到廣大市民認識及認同, 作為 B-Boys 的一份子,我感到很鼓舞。」

今屆的賽事吸引了中、港、澳三地共 95 位 B-Boys 參與,賽事以 1 對 1 形式進行,最後只有一名強者登上 香港區 Red Bull BC One Cypher 街舞王者的寶座。今屆冠軍盟主 B-Boy Monkey J 將會代表香港前往紐西 蘭與其他亞洲區 B-Boys 比拼,爭取成為亞洲區代表,直闖巴西的世界冠軍賽 (Red Bull BC One Cypher World Final) ,在 breakdance 世界舞台上展露光芒。

衛冕成功的街舞盟主 B-Boy Monkey J 表示:「今屆賽事的其他參賽者都有極出色的表現,決賽的對手 Harry 更是很強勁的對手。能在這云云眾生中勝出,再次代表香港區出征紐西蘭亞洲賽,實在是本人莫大 的榮幸。今次的賽果對我起了很大的鼓舞作用,自小對 breakdance 情有獨鍾,由 10 多歲開始我一直希望 可以在這方面發展,深信這次機會除了能夠令眼光廣闊外,同時可以利用今次出征的機會,與其他 B-Boys 交流心得,對我來說是一個重要的里程碑。」
