Mounir (Vagabonds Crew) has just won the Red Bull BC One Cypher France. He's now heading to Rotterdam where he will battle other European champions on September 22nd. With the hope of securing his way to the Red Bull BC One world finals in Rio on December 8th.
Heat, beats and skills ! This is how one could describe the mood of the Red Bull BC One Cypher France which took place tonight at the Salle du Gymnase in Lille. An electric battle that showcased the power of french b-boyin scene that even surprised the judges : « France has a very good reputation, says Neguin, winner of the 2010 Red Bull BC One who was judging the contest with his peers Junior and Niek. But tonight, it was a very high-skilled battle. Marcio, Abd-L, Tim and Meda are complete and creative b-boys, and this is what's important for us ». The Brasilian b-boy didn't fail to rise the pressure among the challengers, showing what Red Bull BC One is about through an amazing intro set : a perfect balance between technics and creativity, style and music.
Opened by the Tonio vs Virus first round, the battle immediately took the crowd by storm. Virus' versatile style, Jackson's powerfull moves and Mounir's perfectly balanced moves defeated Tonio, Dany and Slim, while Meda loses to Billy Boy. On his side, Tim raised the sword : precise, skilled and creative, he won to Ska and Marcio.
In the quarter final, Tim, Mounir, Abd-L and Virus quickly sent Billy Boy, Lil'Kev, Jackson and Marcio back home. Only the strong survive: « Considering the level of the last challengers staying in the game, it then began very difficult to have a clear feeling about who would win », says Neguin. On his way to victory, Mounir tries to avoir the pressure by staying alone, while Pro Phenomen shakes the dancefloor for a 6-minutes show : « I take a look at the battle from time to time, but i try to stay focused on myself », says Mounir. A few minutes later, he wins to b-boy Virus, getting his ticket for the final, where he will face his long-time friend Abd-L (Vagabonds crew) who's just took over Tim.
Before this final round begins, three time BMX Flat world champion Matthias Dandois steps into the cypher, quickly joined by Neguin for a dazzling and refreshing freestyle interlude.
Abd-L and Mounir finally meet for one of the best sets of the night, ending with Mounir's victory. According to Neguin, his way of battling perfectly fits with the Red Bull BC One ethics : « Mounir had been able to maintain the pressure all along the battle ». Even if it wasn't that clear for the winner : « Abd-L has a very technical style, says Mounir. We've been knowing each other for years but i'm still impressed when i see him dancing »
The winner is now heading to Rotterdam for the European selections that will take place on September 22nd . There, he will battle other national champions : « I will train as much as i can, i'd like to go to Brasil, even if I can't say that i'll win. But i'll stay focused and do what i have to do, step by step ».
