ALEX Piña, aka B-Boy ALEX is one of the best B-Boys from South America. He’s a promising dancer who has won several national and Latin American competitions by exhibiting a unique style with extreme moves.
Born in 1986, in Aucayaco, a small town near Pucallpa, in the Peruvian rainforest, this rising star doesn’t let anything stand in his way.
When ALEX was 10 years old, the Piñas moved to Lima. Life in the capital hasn’t been easy, but ALEX never let poverty or his responsibilities, like taking care of his younger brothers, stop him from fulfilling his dream.
Five years ago ALEX discovered his vocation—breaking. Nobody actually taught him his first moves. He was always a very active kid and loved to practice somersaults and other acrobatic movements to music long before he knew about breaking. At Christmas in 2001, his good friend Machito told him about breaking and took him to Zeta Park in Los Olivos in Lima?? where breakers get together and ALEX immediately embraced the dance.
In 2001, at the age of 15, and with the unconditional support of his family, ALEX began to pursue his dream to become the world’s best B-Boy. He started practicing daily to the rhythm of his beloved rap music and studied videos of famous B-Boy competitions to learn from the international stars of the scene.
The Hip Hop scene in Peru is evolving, but there is little support so far. Most of the events are organized by the B-Boys and other dedicated Hip Hop heads with small money.
Through hard work ALEX has become an incredible dancer with great power and a unique style. He won many national and international battles, both solo and with his crew “La Combinación Perfecta” (The Perfect Combination). ALEX says B-Boying has made him stronger and given him great experiences through traveling to other countries.
His battle strategy is to not let the pressure to win take over. He just enjoys the dance, and lets his body follow the music.
